Picked this up on the bay for $8 for my type set. How did I do? (I took photos with my new USB microscope so they're a bit blurry, once I can get the camera out I'll get some better shots)

If it is a one off ok..$8 is nothing.
as it is only Fine it should be at bullion. This is about 20x face or £2 (about $3.50)
Not every coin I buy is going to make me a premium.I am a collector and not an invester (although I always keep true value in mind)
Book value for this is £2 in fine and £10 in EF.
Look at Collectors coins GB a very inexpensive book at about £5 and should you wish to see British grading standards there is a book available about £12.

This is an UNC version at £35.(about $50)in the long run it will be the better investment.
I do try and buy the best I can afford.

Bullion value is actually double what you said at just over £4, so about $6.50 so if you were struggling to fill a gap in a set you did ok.
