This is news to me. First, let me say, I've been a paypal and ebay Canada customer for about 10 years now. I had no idea this was happening.

In the early years, the Canadian Dollar was less than the US buck. Just for arguments sake, lets say $0.90 US would buy $1.00 Canadian.

Now, though not by much, the shoe is on the other foot. $1.00 Canadian will buy you about $1.02 US. ebay respects that. They offer 'the conversion factor' right there, when you use ebay dot ca

In my most recent example, The item had a BIN (Buy it now) of $US $144.58 they go on and advise: Approximately Cdn $141.75

When the transaction went through Paypal, I still ended up paying more in Canadian funds - their translation was: $145.90 CAD To amount $144.58 USD using an outdated exchange rate... ie, the Canadian dollar has been worth more than the green back for at least a few months, yet they suggest the $cdn is only about $0.99US - not much, I know, but still wrong.

Furthermore, the seller contacted me after the purchase, and advised that he too was dinged an addition 1% (or $1.50 US) for the 'foreign exchange transaction'.

I know, as the dollars are approaching parity, it's not a big enough amount to about, but it both sides off - neither gets a break.

Paypal has always charged the buyer a 2.5% fee for $CDN/$US transactions.
$Conversion in listings never includes this fee.

Things are always more expensive in Canada, and this is why people drive South to stock up on merchandise even with the outrageous gas prices. Our retail prices are way too high and our sales tax is just downright insulting.

Yes, I realize that, Just seems stupid to charge a fee - when the dollars
are pretty much at parity.

My real issue was.... Why was the seller ALSO charged an additional 1%?
I'd never heard of that before.
