This seller insists on putting the date range of the series in their auction titles. For instance, a wheat would be listed as 1925 Lincoln Cent 1909 ~ 1958. So if you are searching for either a 1909 or a 1958 you get ALL their wheats. They say that they do it to get the most out of their listings. I don't see how it is beneficial and find it most annoying. If you agree, please send them a message. http://www.ebay.com/sch/Coins-US-/2...ersrarecoins

I dont think sending them a message will do anything. It does accomplish their goal of getting more eyes on their listings and as long as they sell theyll keep doing it

You're probably right. It may be making their listings come up more, but I doubt it has any affect on closing prices.

isn't it against ebay policy to put extra words in a title that arent really relevant to the title. The date range is loosely related I know but its getting a bit far I think.

It probably isn't helping with final price, but the extra eyes may have caused an extra sale or two. Anytime you can work extra terms into a listing that are relevant people will do it to get the extra search hits.

Yeah, I would contact ebay and not the buyer. Listing dates that do not reflect a coin's year of mintage is certainly inaccurate, no matter the reason.

I think this crosses a line. It is not up to us to police ebay. If he is violating ebay policy, let ebay worry about it. Unless he is selling fakes or misrepresenting what he is selling, then leave him alone.

It's a gray area to ebay. The same seller "keyword spams" the Morgan dollar listings, too ... 1878-1921. As a frequent visitor to the 1878 listings I see all of his Morgans. That is his/her objective. You won't convince them to change it. I haven't tried this yet but you may be able to eliminate his listings by modifying your search with the venerable "minus -". Just copy his exact phrase, put a comma after your search string and paste his phrase in with a "-" preceding it.

Definitely a gray area. While its clearly just trying to get extra eyes on the listings, it is still factually accurate

Quote: It is not up to us to police ebay. If it affects my buying experience I'm reporting it. If I was searching for a 1958 cent and these listings came up and cluttered my results, I'd report every single one of them. It IS my business when it affects me. My biggest one that I report almost every single day is Nazi coins in US categories.

They are absolutely not violating any ebay policy. I was hoping that the seller would understand how much they are negatively impacting the search results of so many while gaining such a tiny amount, if any at all. I contacted them twice and they don't. They insist that people searching for type coins will use the date ranges. ebay already has a way to do this without using any dates.

Quote: Wanna bet? How so? Its factually accurate information that does in fact pertain to their listing. It may be annoying but I dont see how its a violation of anything.

Did you guys check his 1909s Lincoln Cent, it may be genuine but I don't recall seeing one with the mintmark that far south/east...

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1914-D-VG-o...em4607f514021909 and 2012 are NOT directly related to this item and serve ZERO purpose in the title. No one that's looking for a 1914 is going to search either of them unless they're an idiot. I've gotten plenty of these removed before.
