I am really torn on this one. Years ago I was kind of upset to see PCGS decided to encapsulate a Trade dollar with chop marks when they sent any other type of damaged coin back to the submitter in a bodybag. I mean come on, how can you decide one type of PMD is alright when any other type of PMD isn't. That is really what these are, PMD as the chop marks was put on the coins outside of the mint so its a clear case of PMD. If they were going to allow any PMD at all in their slabs then I think they should have done as they do now and grade all of the coins with PMD. With that being said if the chop mark is pretty hidden and you really have to look for it to even notice it is there, then I don't really mind them but I do not like any type of PMD (my opinion) that draws the eye away from the detail of the coin. so I would have to look at 1000 chop marked Trade dollars before I would find one I would ever think about buying. I do have a couple Trade dollars in my collection and not one of them has chop marks on them and I probably never will own one with any. There was one posted on here awhile back that had one little chop mark on the Reverse that almost blended into the design and I actually had to look close to even see it, that one I wouldn't mind having but I am sure it is at least 1000 to 1 coin if not higher than that

My Trade dollar example has a single chop mark in the field, which does not detract from the design of the coin. And I love it. The eagle on the 20 cent piece and Trade dollar is my fav!
