The coin is so huge and 3D despite the wear it super nice in hand. I think I did well for $177, shipped. Surprisingly I bought this privately and not through the bay. I think one of the best coins in my budget. I am excited. Its soooo chunky and coiny in hand.

Not what you wanted but my offering from Thasos is about 250 years older. As a hemiobol there should be 48 of them in a tetradrachm but the standards changed between the two so you really can't criticize mine for weighing between .2 and .3g. The head is the Nymph after whom the city was named.

A few tets of Thasos have come onto the market recently.
I am sure they are all genuine, because all of the pictures of them I have examined suggest that they were all derived from different dies. That suggests that a large hoard of them was discovered, perhaps 10 or more years ago, and now they are found on the market. Perhaps it has taken that long for them to be approved for legitimate sale.

Well I am stuck here at the office waiting for my analysis to finish and boom! Tooling around on the internet I found this interesting article. Its basically A list of some coins from a hoard found in south eastern Europe a while back, the hoard included Thasos Tets and "new style" Athens tets. http://www.academia.edu/346515/A_la...se_Deltchev_I found that Plate 60 coin #45 looks a lot like my tet (not the same exact coin) but the monograms and styling is very similar.
