This is a 1916 Straits Settlements 1/4 cents. I need to know whether this is an error coin. Thanks you.

What a tragedy !

It looks like intentional post mint damage to me - I've achieved a similar effect on (worthless) bronze and cupro-nickel coins using a metal lathe.

This coin might have been worthless at the time, of course.

Hi Pertinax. Thanks for your input. I believe it was intentional damage too. I think the mint might have done some mistake while minting the coin and the Quality Inspector could have rejected for quality issues. Do you think people will buy this if I sell it on ebay?

It was done post mint, no additional value is added. No way to prove it was done at the mint like that theory.

Even so, the reverse is still lovely.

I'm a fan of Straits Settlements coins and there must be others, too.

It would look nice mounted in a frame.

I don't think you'll get much, but I think it would sell.
