Hello everyone and thank you for your time reading my question and hopefully you would be able to give me reliable feedback. I am interested in buying a 1807 XF 40 Capped Bust Half. It is graded and in the front it does say that the coin is "mint made adjustment marks". I did read up on it and it simply says that the mint filed the coin to make its weight and it would not devalue it.

I personally do like the coin a lot and am considering buying it, it does show some abrasions on it but not all that bad looking. I just want to know if in the future I end up selling it that I can get back what I paid for on the coin. To others I would like to know if they see the coin if they would considered it "damage goods "

Thats always kind of a crap shoot. The market for coins is constantly changing. Whats hot one month may not be the next although certain coins do hold their value better than others there will still be ups and downs in the market. Then you have to consider how you would sell it. Dealers wont give you market value, and ebay has fees it charges where you could most likely get market value so most likely youll be down some if the market doesn't change at all. What you paid for it will also be a big factor.

Also the economy will play a role in it too. When the economy is doing well people have a lot of extra money and prices go up. When its not doing well prices go down since fewer people have money for collectables, baseball cards are the perfect example of this. The longer the economy is down fewer people will have extra money for it driving prices down further and the ones that can afford it may choose to invest or save instead.

Basically to answer your question, I would say probably not. I would say if you are buying it to just kind of rent thinking youll get your money back I would pass or if money is tight enough youd need to be able to to get it. I definitely understand not wanting to lose money on purchases, but sadly most of the time you will lose at least some money reselling.

If your asking if the mint adjustment marks will devalue the coin then the answer is probably no. It sounds like your not really interested in this coin so it is probably best to pass on it and keep looking.

Adjustment marks can affect the value of the coin because they can be distracting and I think the majority of collectors would prefer one with less rather than more. I think they don't affect the value to the same extent that post mint problems do. It is hard to say if you can get sell the coin for what you paid but if you think the price is fair, you like the coin, and you can afford it, then go for it. If you get it, we would like to see some pictures.
