TSmith3510 Valued Member United States 455 Posts	Posted 03/19/2007 6:32 pm I usually dump my pocket change in a small desk drawer. When it starts to get full I sort through it separating quarters, dimes, nickels, etc. into different coffee cans, plastic bottles, bags and what have you. I noticed that I have fewer nickels than any other denomination. I thought about it and then it occurred to me.. ..there's a good reason for this. When a register clerk gives us change, on any given transaction we can receive up to 4 pennies, 3 quarters, 2 dimes, but only one nickel. Useless information? Yeah, probably. When I was a cashier, I would purposely give smaller change so I could open more rolls to thumb through. First off when the quarter tray is empty I start using dimes and nickels. Let's say they get 75 cents change coming, and instead of busting open another roll of quarters I would give them 7 dimes and a nickel! Nickels and dimes went fast so I got to keep opening more rolls of them while picking out the coins I wanted! And when somebody pay with a silver coin, I get all excited and put it aside to buy from the till. Report this Post to the Staff

I might have to take advantage of that. Spend the quarters except for the pres. one's I need and sort through the nickels. Report this Post to the Staff
