I have a coin or medal just a bit larger than a quarter. It isn't perfectly spherical and seems to be made of silver or nickle. On the front is the figure of a robed man with a beard and the "all seeing eye" on his robes. He is holding and pointing to a scroll with three pillars on it. There is writing on the scroll but I cannot make it out. Above this image is the name "Sanctus Marinus". On the back side are the words; "Democrazia cristiana sammarinese 1659 f.r."

Probably from the Republic of San Marino although I'm unaware of the significance of 1659 in that state's history.

The "three pillars" is definitely a reference to the country of San Marino, which has three towers with feathers in them on its coat of arms, flag, coins etc.. Saint Marinus was the country's legendary founder.

According to that legend, the city was founded on 3rd September AD 301. 1,659 years "from the Founding of the Republic" (F.R.) would therefore be AD 1959.

"Democrazia Cristiana Sammarinese" translates to "San Marino Christian Democrats", which is a political party in San Marino which has existed since 1948. On their website they use a logo with St Marinus holding a scroll, very similar to the obverse of this medal.

In short: I believe your piece to be a political campaign medal from San Marino.
