I was going through my 1997 and 1998 error nickels and I came across one which had a bunch of those plating bubbles that we often see on the new "nickel" coinage. On this one particular nickel most of the beads are virtually non-existent, where it looks like the "bubbles" have been scraped or worn off. This gives it a look similar to the outside edge of the reverse of your own coin, aardspeed, especially above the word "CANADA". Could your entire coin be a victim of an even worse case where the outer layer of nickel -- heavily "bubbled" -- has been worn/been scraped off? A really bad plating rash might explain that weird landscape all over both sides of your quarter. Just a thought. Report this Post to the Staff
