he has it advertised as an 1882 but it looks like an 1892 to me. I know the photos aren't great, but can anyone spot anything that might make this fake? If I try to meet up and check it out what tests should I do to determine if it's real? Just weigh it?
Anyone have an idea what a coin like this would sell for in this condition?
Carson City Nirvana?! That is just too funny! My hunch...all you will need is a magnet. And I would wager he won't take less than $100 for it, but my hunch it is steel. The fact the stars are so proud yet the rim is almost gone makes me suspect, but I am far from an expert.
This is a no-win situation. He can't even read the date properly. There are a couple of hard rim dings, enough to keep it out of a slab even if it *is* genuine. Not a chance he'll accept a reasonable price.
The pictures are a bit too small and not clear to say with certainty that its real but I don't see anything off the bat that would condemn it. The grade might be around a VGish details, cleaned and rim damaged. After looking at some auction records for comparables, my guess of value might be around $60-70ish.
