Hello,

I picked up this carved Morgan silver dollar at a yard sale a while back.

This coin is special to me since it appears that even the stars' tips seem to be precisely cut out.

I would like opinions as to:

a) was this cut by hand or by laser?

b) what would be the approximate average resale value of this item?

Thanks,
mdpmedia

keldaw2222 a number 6 blade should be fine for several coins sounds like your putting too much pressure on the blade to get a faster cut or you are twisting it round corners rather than cutting. I use number 8 blade regularly and break maybe one a day. Slow down and let the blade do the work.

Hand cut and not as well as it could have been looks like an earlier piece before someone has developed a skill for the job

Not as much as it should be the last Morgan I did took close to 20hrs to cut and sold for $42 but then I don't do it for the money
I have seen cut Morgans sell on ebay for as little as $15

the ones I buy also come with a chain, and split ring, without the chain and split ring it is worth $ 35.00 to me with postage.
or take to a jeweler or somewere and get it dipped in silver , it would look much better ,and you may get a better price on ebay ..
i would say also cut by hand , but still nice to have ..i think it would have better suited with the other side cut to the eagle patton . but that is a personal choice ..

richard,
dont you think the eagle side is the better looking for the patton ?
and I perfer to hang it on the chain through the coin rather then adding the extra to the top of the coin but still alot of work in both them eagle dollars
very nice .. ,, kel ,,

I know this post was from years ago but I just finished that dollar coin with all the kangaroos. Pretty impressed with the outcome
