Tried my 3rd attempt at attributing one of my Morgans. Took a crack at a 1884-O with a more disciplined approach as shown in Seatednuts post. Here is how I looked at the coin:

1. Reverse: determined if round or oval O. It was oval.
2. Reverse: determined if anything was going on in or around the O. I found the re-punch at the top inside of the O (a horizontal curved re-punch, not vertical).
3. Reverse: checked position of mint-mark. It was center high (I'm guessing this should have been the 2nd step)?
* at this point it narrowed the possibilities to a few, so I went to the obverse.
4. Checked the date. Nothing really going on there except far-date.
5. Checked the stars and E. PLURIBUS UNUM. This Morgan had many die-cracks on the obverse. Found the LDS break in the 6th left star.
6. Checked a few other obverse die breaks vs. Vamworld pics. Breaks matched.

I attributed this Morgan as a VAM-29A I-3 R-5. Do the findings sound correct?

I'll get pics posted in the morning. I usually take horrible pics, slightly better with natural light.

Why wait for the sun to come up when you can use something called a 'daylight compact fluorescent' bulb anytime; this bulb very closely simulates natural daylight and works great on coins.

This Ecosmart brand bulb runs at 120 volts, 14 watts energy utilization(light output equivalent to a regular 60 watt bulb), and 5000k(Kelvin).

This CFL(Compact Fluorescent Lamp) bulb can be procured at home improvement stores such as Lowes and/or Home Depot for less than $ 3.75 each in a four pack.

For examples of the type of end results it is capable of producing check out the posts specifically relating to the iT7 USB camera which used these exact types of CFL bulbs:

Here are the pics. Will check out the bulb as mentioned (and something else to take better pics with, this Canon SD 750 is really not cutting it):
