Just wondering. If you were to invest (or just to add into your collection if you have niether) in one of these to coins (UNC condition, MS 63 or up), which one would you choose: 2000P Nickel? 4 899 000 1938 Nickel? 3 898 974 Any other suggestions?

2000P in the highest possible grade. I think it's a sleeper and 50 years from now will command a handsome premium. They can be found in rolls now if you're a patient and diligent roll hunter, I've pulled 4 this year. I only hunt about $80 worth of nickels a month at the moment, so I'm sure many more could be found at face value if I hunted a larger quantity of nickels. I will step up the nickel hunting next year, but right now I have too many pennies to save from the RCM smelter, lol!

I would expect the 2000P in 30 years to look somewhat like the 1970 nickel looks now (mintage 5,726,010).

1938, MS-64 or better. You can still find unsearched rolls of 2000P 5-cent coins, the same cannot be said for 1938 5-cent coins.

Concur with spp A rock solid MS64 1938 is a prize and a 65 would be a major rarity. The 2000 P is fairly easy in todays market and will be more likely similiar to the 1970 5 cents rather than the rarity that is the high grade 1938.

I so far have pulled one 2000P (There are minor scratches but no wear) at MS 62-64. I have also pulled a 1938 at VF 15 to 20, far from MS. Yes, you could find 2000P in rolls, however, it takes luck to find a 2000P with a grade of over MS 65. What is the current highest grade for 2000P Nickel?

Never found a '38 in change. Fairly pricey even in MS63.

Does anyone have a population report that shows the highest example (in grade) of 1938 and 2000P nickels? Any other suggestions on other similiar nickel investments?

in my opinion, one of the sleepers is the 1932 in mintstate. They are surprisingly hard to find. You'll see several 1925's and 1926's for sale before you find a good 1932 (ms 64 and up).

Definitely I'd choose the 1938.
Any coin after 1955 I would never recommend spending a lot of money on a high grade/ low Pop number.
Way too many of these will appear in the future.
I remember about 15 years ago at a Hamilton coin show a dealer just had graded many solo highest and top pop QEII heavy cameo quarters and halves. I believe they were in the early 1960's and he was selling them for $400 to $800. I told him that I would never waste my money on these, wait 10 to 20 years and they'll be dirt cheap.
Look at the ICCS ms65 QEII dimes from 1957 to 1965. They first were selling from $80 to $200. Now they hardly get $20.

I have a 1938 nickel at VF https://goccf.com/t/131409Although low grade,I still consider this one as a key-date find, my first find of keydate! I'll take a picture of my 2000P soon. It has scratches (minor but visible with naked eye) but no wear).
