I have been trying to find this coin with no luck. It looks like it is Japanese. 1986 very slightly larger than a dime.

any ideas?

Yep, 1 fen, currently worth 1/10th of a UK penny or about 1/6th of a US cent. I even saw these being used in a supermarket in Beijing a month ago.

One fen (分) means one cent exactly. As the denomination is too low, I think it had been obsolete for years in PROC. (壹分)= (One Cent)
