Not rare or valuable , but certainly worth snapping up. It sure was nice of that bank teller to offer them to you.

for the record the bank will not even accept them as cash.. they are all being destroyed... Take some to the bank and see what they tell you. To me they are still money but to the bank they are not..The Mint does not want them ....

No, the bank will take them- at least where I live - its still Canadian coinage.
Nice finds! Glad you have a kind teller at your bank. Wish I could be so lucky :(

Yeah that's weird because the bank is probably the only place that's basically required to take genuine Canadian coinage in any denomination.

with wade, Merc, and Noah. If you take Canadian coins to a Canadian bank they accept them. All of them.

The term RARE would more appropriately be used for an 1889 dime in MS-66 grade! (or perhaps that's just my view of rarity........LOL) Glenn

Mercurydime check the 74 50cent for missing A or S on the bottom banner of coat of arms. The coins are still legal tender and most be accepted, some of the smaller branches may say that they do not as they will be stuck holding on to them.

1189 dimes graded by I.C.C.S.: 3 @ MS-63 and 1 @ MS-66. My 1889 dime is just a meek I.C.C.S., F-15, common grade but a nice problem free piece with bold date! Glenn

Be sure to check the 1974 50-cent piece for the "Missing S" variety...
