Eagle, wings spread, head left, stands upon thigh of bull ... seriously?=> wow!! ... I think that this is a very cool coin!! (agree, disagree?) ... NOTE => I found several other "similar" examples, but none where the eagle was standing upon a thigh of a bull!! (how cool is that!!?) Hadrian silver (AR) tetradrachm 117-138 AD Struck at the mint of Antioch in Syria Diameter: 23.1 mm Weight: 12.88 grams Obverse: Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Hadrian to right Reverse: Eagle, wings spread, head left, stands upon thigh of bull Reference: BMC 304-05 Other: NICE surfaces nearly EF. SCARCE ... opinions?
=> should I move this to the top of my wish-list? (thanks guys)

Thanks Bing ... => yah, I currently have a "bundle-offer" sitting with this seller (he has not responded to my standard 75% of the seller's initial asking price) ... Hey, I'm pretty sure that it was "you" that told/taught me to go with that strategy? ... lately, if I don't get the dudes to agree with 75-80%, then I walk ... Hmmm => that may have been the single, most valuable piece of advice that you've given me, "so far" ... I hope that you have a great Saturday night!!

echizento => note, this is a "Roman" coin ... I have taken your advice (and doug's) and I've decided to toss-in a Roman coin, in an attempt to even-out my Greek-heavy collection .... => ummm, sorry DVC ... yah, I know that you are a die-hard Greek fan (and I admit that I am usually drawn towrds the mythical and artistic Greek coins) ... but oh man, even you've got to admit that this is one fine lookin' Roman coin, yes?!! ... geeesssh, I hope that the seller takes the bait!! (the waiting is the hardest part ... T.Petty)

Nice type but small flan and porous surfaces make it a bargain coin. Considering you are spending so much money on coins, you might consider buying nicer coins and leaving the lesser ones for bottom feeders like me. I would much rather have one with full legends and much more wear.

Hi dougsmit ... ahahah => I am very sure that you're not a bottom-feeder and that you get the "ds" discount where ever you decide to shop!! ... but regardless, I thought that this coin had quite nice surfaces and a fair bit of legend? (I must be off of my game tonight?) ... plus, maybe you know better than me ("obviously"!!), but I didn't/couldn't find any other examples that displayed the bull leg bit!!? => but most importantly, thanks for stepping-up and giving me your opinion!! (I appreciate it)

I think having a coin from the Roman Empire at its greatest extent (Trajan, Hadrian- defined as largest geographic boundary of the Empire) is very neat. I need a good Hadrian coin too. I must agree with those that suggest to pass. I think a collector of nature should have a coin of this period, but a coin that represents the most powerful ancient empire at its height. A huge provincial tetradrachm would be ridiculous. DO they make a Hadrian Cistophoric Tet? If so get it- don't mess around with off struck piddlers- meant for us bottom feeders.

Thanks echi and Eng .... yah, I know when I've already "felt it" for a coin and I've already felt-it for this dawg ... => A-noob and dougsmit => I also agree that perhaps this isn't the ultimate best example that is available to man, but depsite the rumours I am "not rich" so I aim directly at these "'almost perfect" coins, for I don't have twice the cash to wait around for the ultimate plums!! (that's Batman's & maridvnvm's duty!!) ... just jokes!! ... anyway ... this coin looks like it's decided that I'm gonna buy it, so I'm pretty sure that if the seller agrees with my offer, the "click sound" will be heard and the deal will be sealed!! oh, but as always => I love hearing the pros & cons and everybody's opinions (if I don't happen to take your advice on a coin, "please" don't take it personally .... it's just a coin!!)

You might be interested in seeing the one in the last Frank Robinson sale (still online until he posts the next sale) which went for $265 with different but roughly equal faults. I admit I am a bit over-insistent on legends and none of these seem to be full legend.

Excellent portrait of Hadrian! I don't have many Roman coins, but I really like this one!
