COPE swap takes place when sheets are inspected at the BEP and then placed back into production on the wrong stack of sheets. Meaning inspect stack A but place the sheets on Stack B.

The BEP does not consider these as errors.

SN 001 and 002 are position E1

SN 003 and 004 are Position E3...(all notes should have been E3)

There are a few other notes in the pack with plate position E1.

I contacted someone who is very knowledgeable in this area and what he told me is that if you buy straps of notes from the bank and took the time to study the SN's and plate positions that you will find cope swap notes. It is NOT common but can be found.

So that would have happened after front and backs were printed and then the sheets would be cut in half, then swapped (see diagram) and run through COPE-PAK for overprinting and packaging.

Yes, the sheets cut in half then inspected but placed on wrong stack and on to over printing.

Nick, I have been looking for this in chcu and it took me a while to find it and was not easy. It's a nerdy thing..

I think what this demonstrates is that you have WAY too much time on your hands

We are deviating form the topic But But

You bring up a good point...not sure how many folks realize the amount of time, effort and expenses are involved in trying to locate notes and or coins.

This is why I started trading / buying certain notes as it was cheaper to do it that way than to be hunting and have ended up with a lot of extra items which I now need to sell off.... another topic all together.

On a side note â€" apparently, there are folks who have dedicated computers searching ebay for certain items / screening as they are listed.....crazy ahhh. In some ways this is similar to your score with that star pack. Right place at the right time so to say.

I used to spend a LOT of time searching and following auctions on the bay and elsewhere so I know all about the time it takes to do serious collecting. I probably didn't spend as much time as others but I still found myself waking up hours before I had to get ready to go to work, then following auctions at work, and finally dedicating time after work to set up everything for the next day. I know you spend a lot of time on the same thing.

For most here this is all just a hobby, but for others it is their bread and butter.

Pretty cool find. So how much are they worth then? Just wondering if they are worth searching for.

And it isn't about the time, but the thrill of the chase and finding any error, even if it takes you many hours. Like I had to search over 9,000 Lincoln cents to find one 1999 WAM, plus a bunch of other error/varieties, but well worth the time.
