Hi everyone,

I have recently bought a 1913 1/2 stiver from Essequebo & Demerary but there is something wrong with the minting. It seems like there is a bit of extra material on top of the head of the monarch.

What do you think?

Error or Forgery

I was going to say, George was long dead by 1913. This coin was minted 1813.

Looks to be an error, or maybe it was hit with a nail. See if theres a seam on the back where someone has (properly) filled a hole, thats what it looks to me, I cant see an 'exit wound'.

There appears to be a dark patch just above the crown on the reverse. Does this match the mark above George's head?

By the way - welcome to the forum.

Actually George III "reigned" till 1820. The quotation marks are because he was not all there, and George IV was "helping" him as a regent since 1811.
This type half stiver and [whole] stiver coins were minted one year (1813) only.

To me it looks like a PMD (post-mint damage).

Edit: Sorry, I missed the whole thing with 19.../18...!
Now I see what's going on. I'm terrible with numbers
