Hello from Sunny Queensland Australia. I am darge and seeing I am registered here I must have visited at least once before but I have a memory like a sieve these days. I was sorting through some British pennies and decided to research values. I was a bit surprised to learn the 1852 penny I was holding was a figment of my imagination, it sure looks real.
Does it mean this coin is a counterfeit or fake? Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks all. darge. PS Trying to lower photo size but having problems.

Welcome back! I moved your topic to the 'United Kingdom (Great Britain) Coins' forum for more attention. As for your problems with the image size, have you tried the Free Image Optimizer?

I have just consulted my Spink Bible,"There were no pennies made in '52, sorry FIOTI there were, they may not have been made for circulation, but Spink Ref 4117 tells me there were PROOF FDC 1952 made, and Darge although its very unlikely, but not impossible....your a rich man if you have one......!! Valued at 2012 prices at £67,500. Here's hoping?

Hello sorry but had to get some sleep.
Thanks for moving this to the right place.
Sorry about the incorrect date it is actually 1852, it isn't in great condition though.
I did try the size optimizer and thought I had reduced the photos but can't seem to download them to the site. I think I am not keying into the correct location to download them. Any tips?
Thanks.

I found out what was wrong. The first photo was right on 100 and has to be less than 100. I will reduce it by 1% and then post it.

Hi Darge, Well it certainly LOOKS like 1852 to me, and like others said before me, there was not Penny made in 1852, I can only assume it may be a Halfpenny, the only way to know is easurements, A COPPER PENNY is 34mm Dia and weighs approx 18.8gramms, A COPPER HALFPENNY is 28mm Dia and weighs approx 9.3gramms. Hope this helps you sort out the quandry.

Hello greeniejim you are spot on it is a half penny, 28 mm wide and weighs 8.9 grams. What mislead me is I have a 1876 halfpenny that is only 25 mm diameter and weighs 5.6 grams plus the denomination isn't printed on the coin either like they do for us dummies in Oz. Feeling a bit embarrassed here and trying to find excuses. LOL Funny thing is I have a collection of English pennies which has suddenly become a collection of halfpennies. Thanks everyone for your help. darge.
