Ive read that the insides of coinstars have a chute with rejected coins in it that havent fallen straight out...
Is this true?
If it is, I might phone the nearest shop with one to me and see what they do with it. I assume coinstar doesn't collect these up...

Not sure about the inner workings of these machines, but the one at my credit union does not like pennies for some reason. I usually scoop up a few each time I visit. Five coins last time; Four pennies - three zinc and one copper and one English 10 pence.

I do not see how they could get away with sending rejected coins to anywhere but the external rejection tray. Otherwise, it would be considered stealing.

There is a magnet that will catch anything magnetic. There are a few catch bins that have screens too small to allow a coin to pass but they will let paperclips, pebbles, earings and other items that are smaller than a dime through so that they dont jam the counting wheel. These do not pass outside the machine as they are most often trash. If you notice that something of value like a diamond earing/cufflink goes through you can usually have the store employee open the machine and get it out of the dust bin. If you don't notice and neither does whoever open and cleans the machine it will get thrown out with the garbage.

There is a guy on another forum whose son cleans out the local coin counter for them and he is always finding some interesting stuff, both coins and other stuff. Not sure if it is a coinstar, but the principal is the same. The time or two he posted pictures of the machine it did have a reject tray. So I don't see why there isn't a spot to store rejected coins also.

I stopped and talked to a coinstar employee at an open machine at the grocery store one time. There was most definitely an internal reject tray.
I saw some colorized half dollars but don't remember much else. I wanted to ogle but didn't.
The employee said he had a good collection of coins. He said maybe we could get together over coffee and talk about coins. But that was the end of it.
If you happen to see them doing maintenance at a coinstar it wouldn't hurt to amble over and peek inside.

I've yet to ever see anything in the Coinstar reject tray. I keep looking, though.
