I have just found out the 2x2 albums I bought originally may contain PVC I paid good money for these and in my naivety I assumed that they were PVC free, I very much doubt that this is the case. I have since purchased a number of Archive quality Non PVC albums and am transferring my collections to them. I am happy that I have done this, The albums I now have come from a reliable and trusted source and I am now confident that my coins will be SAFE. So If you are going down the 2x2 album storage system (Highly recommended IMHO) make absolutely sure that they are PVC free in every way

Trout, can you please explain a bit more,
is this album made for 2x2's ?
do you still need the pages that 2x2's go into then into a binder?
If this is a special binder where do you get them?

mcshilling, I believe the OP is referring to the 20 coin pages made for 2x2s that go into any three ring binder.

will PVC affect it if it's still in a 2X2

Quote: will PVC affect it if it's still in a 2X2 Yes it will. The 2x2s are not airtite or hermetically sealed like the TPG holders are, so elements can still have an effect on the coins in the 2x2s as they are usually stapled closed. It's the gases that PVC, like cardboard, emit that effects the coin.

Cardboard doesn't contain PVC but it can contain sulfur which can do some nasty things to your coins.

I went with BCW but you have to watch it as they make some 20 pocket pages with thumb cut-outs that contain PVC. You can definitely feel the difference in the two.

I agree with Trout: that's the system that I settled on, after careful consideration. I use staples, rather than self-adhesives.
What annoys me is that manufacturers and distributors persist with 2x2 and pages that contain PVC, when the market demands non-PVC.
And compounding that, labelling of 2x2 & pages could be clearer, but I suppose dealers who deal in rubbish don't want to draw attention to that fact.
