Is what Mr. Bromberg is doing really any different than what the mint is doing?

@54dollarcoin: No, but it's 100% worse when RCM caters to the Bromberg.

I personally love watching him on the shopping channel. The stuff is overpriced (except stuff still at mint issue price) for sure but I love hearing him talk the stuff up. Super rare this and that lol.
Ultimately the guy is able to sell a lot on the show so why not come since he is in the business. I don't feel he is totally leading people on (except maybe about the after market of all the coins). I personally would never buy from him on the shopping channel but have been to his store in Richmond Hill and they do have quite the selection. Obviously you end up paying full trends but for coins that are tougher to find I was able to get some decent prices.
It all comes down to doing your research before you buy. Most of his stuff I won't buy but other coins he has cheaper than any other coin stores as do other stores for other coins so be sure to shop around.

I enjoy watching the coin show if only to see some of the products in greater detail. The 1 kg dragon last night was really cool. You just don't get that same perspective on mint.ca or even YouTube videos so this is the next best thing to actually holding the coin. However, almost all of the coins are overpriced and IMO few knowledgeable collector would buy from the TSC. I really don't like the borderline practice of showing one coin and then up-selling to a higher grade or down-selling to a similar coin. For example, last night, he was selling two 1969 error 1 cent coins. Showing a higher grade on screen but the graphics were for the lower grade (at a lower price). He also held up the $15 dragon with the 1 kg and suggested they were basically the same just $2100 different in price. He should only be showing the item he is selling, not confusing viewers with other (more expensive) items. The host suggested that the 1 kg was affordable because of the 6 monthly payment of $366. Really? If you have to buy on the installment plan, you probably shouldn't be spending $2200 on a coin. And everything is always sold out, super rare, low mintage and probably going to increase in value...though there is no guarantee wink, wink. Last night we heard all about how the grey cup silver dollar is selling well in the secondary market. This despite being available at or near issue on dealer websites. But the worst has to be the proof silver dollars and proof sets. He always mentions that the equivalent current year issue cost is $XX so if you are getting 10 items from 1985-1994, their value is likely 10 times the $XX current issue price. That is simply not true and IMO is very misleading. Or saying the 1980 silver dollar sold for $200 years ago (which he says often). So what? It doesn't sell for $200 now and that's what is relevant. Makes for a good show and it is fun watching the 'hosts' try to talk about coins when it's pretty obvious they wouldn't know a 1921 nickel from a Wolfgang Puck panini grill. Still, I'll probably flip over for a bit today between football games. PS. makes sure you buy a box of 2012 pennies (both kinds) because they are super rare and a roll of '91 quarters goes for $500 now.

hahaha yes I remember his story about the 1991 quarters
He looked through 10,000 plus pennies and not 1 2012 penny !

People need to educate themselves before making any purchases regardless if it's from the Home Shopping Channel.

the buyers should understand how rare a flip strike coin is, yet he had 9 ms 63 and 8 ms 64 of this 1969 penny for sale. these pennies were almost exact twins to each other they had to be custum made, yet he almost sold out by airtime, a pure salesman at 400 and 500 each.

He said he got those errors from a guy in Ontario who is probably the foremost collector of errors in Canada and has a large budget for coins. (paraphrasing) Wonder which one of YOU that is...... I also enjoyed his explanation of how those error pennies were created in the mints presses.

1969 is a blindly obvious back-door job. There are way too many in-collar flips.
So TV guy sourced the mint crooks that created them?
