The Siam pieces in the first photo are definitely worth much more than melt.

Similar ones on the bay....

I search mostly at garage sales...it is hard to find for me, not really worth the gas just for the pieces I find, but I look for other things, and yes it is very exciting when I find a piece for a dollar or less! Love the ring, I wish I could find one of those for a dollar!

Hmm. Looks like a good pile to throw into my crucible! Nice buys. Flea markets where I live ask for 20% over melt on any type of PMs scrap or not.

NICE STUFF - and purchased at the right price, too! Just out of curiosity - when you're on the garage sale-rummage sale-flea market circuit - how do you distinguish real sterling silver from plated stuff or imitation stuff (aside from the obvious "if it's magnetic, it isn't silver" axiom)?

I'd love to do the garage sale-rummage sale-flea market sterling-hunting thing next year, but I'm afraid I'd come up with a dumptruck full of imitation and plated garbage.

I'm still trying to perfect the melting process you set up for me my friend. When you are doing it with just a torch it is so hard to get it poured before it solidifies. I'm working on it though. I have a whole mess ;0 of silverware I'm gonna melt soon.
