No better way to mark your trip to London than with a 1700 year old coin minted in London

Windchild: You done good.
My first ancient was a Macedonian gold stater, bought over 30 years ago. I bought it through a friend who had been in the coin dealing business for 20 years, and had sold his very extensive ancients collection to Spinks in London, way back in 1970.
That friend was Jim Noble, who originally set up Noble Numismatics in Australia. The company now conducts several multi million dollar auctions every year.
My coin came from Spinks, through him, in 1978. I still have all of the documentation that went with the purchase.
I have learnt a great deal about ancients since then, but my first coin came from a dealer which at the time, had the best reputation in the World for ancient coins.

Actually, the first one is both parts of the SMACKDOWN... It's both a radiate and a laureate!
The follis was £50, or roughly $78. It was a pre WW1 find near where I was born. The denarius was $100, with a pair of older pictures (70's or so). The dealer bought it from a collector who had had it since the 60's, and who had bought it from another collector who had it from pre WW2, making it a pre-Metal detecting find.
