I don't remember who it was, but 2-3 months ago somebody explained how you could import data from a website into an Excel spreadsheet in order to get automatic pricing updates. It was suggested that the PM tickers on coininfo.com were well suited for this purpose. I gave it a try and have been thrilled with the results -- for months now I have had a spreadsheet of all my PM purchases that I could update the values on simply by selecting "Refresh Data."

Until today, that is...

Coininfo.com apparently just changed their PM ticker. In fact, they have a banner announcement on their website announcing this fact. Sadly, this change prevents the data from being importable into Excel.

Anyway, for anybody who actually cares about this, I looked around various sites and finally found that the PM ticker on goldmart.com works nicely as a replacement.

Thanks Barry. I believe I was the one who made that suggestion. I'll update my spreadsheet as well.

Whoa. You could do that with excel? Would be nice to be about to update my hoard list and see what's over the value that I paid for. It's not something that I really really need, but it is a cool concept. If I wasn't so lazy, I'd be tempted to apply this, but I am. :P

I'm sure for a dealer, that would be awesome, since with a click, you'd be able to see how much each item is worth at the moment.

I wonder how many other great ideas I've missed on this site.

Eupion, it only takes about a minute to import the info into excel. After that, you can reference it within your spreadsheet to easily update values.

To do it, open an excel spreadsheet and go to the 'Data' tab.
Click on the 'From Web' box which will open up a 'New Web Query'
Type in whatever website you want to update precious metal prices. As Barry suggested, I've updated mine to prices from Goldmart.
After getting to their website, click on the yellow arrow right next to their '24h Live Spot Prices.'
Then click 'Import' at the bottom of the window, and select which cell to import into excel.
To update the prices, click on 'Refresh All' under the 'Data' tab.

Once you set it up, it's very easy to refresh and see how your bottom line changes with changes in spot price.

If you are using google docs, you can use the following;

=ImportHtml("http://www.goldmart.com/?"&Summary!C1;"table";1)
