Hi Guys Was looking at these 2006 and 2008 quarters that are suppose to be identical in size and weight over the years shown, but as the pictures show that one shot the reeding lines up, but as you move the coins 45 degrees they do not line up. The 2006 is on top and the 2008 on the bottom.

Shouldn't you be comparing 2006 to a 2006 and a 2008 to a 2008?

25 cents have had the same diameter,23.88mm,since the SF change in 1953. Next thing you must do is count the number of indentations on each coin to see if the collars used for each coin differ.

A tedious task. Not as noticeable as the 16 and 14 serrations toonie. I want to guess 100 grooves in a reeded quarter, good luck.

If they're not valuable coins, you could paint the first indentation, then every fifth or 10th all the way round the coin.
By paint, I mean something that isn't too noticeable - felt tip or nail varnish; both of which can be removed with acetone.

My god-daughter has just had another idea which requires only 1 indentation to be marked.
Create a flat piece of 'Blue Tack'/Plasticine, then roll the coin edge over the flat. The indentation edge will be marked easily and it'll be easy to count the indentations - without going cross-eyed or straining your vision.
I think it might work with chewing gum or pastry, too.

Try pressing the coin into silly puddy and taking a picture of the impression. Might work.

Just tried your idea Bm0ney, but the putty is too thick to capture the reeding's....Good try though... There has to be a simple way for ALL of us to use....
