Before I tell you about my question, I will tell you the following story.

For a few years now, I've been working at a certain summer camp. No one could ever ask for a better and more family friendly camp then this one. When the camp director bought the camp 33 years ago, a safe was found in one of the closets. It was old and made out of cast iron. For years, no one had opened it. This year was the last year for that summer camp. Recently, the director finally decided to open the safe and unlock the age old mystery. A hammer was used to break open the bottom. When the dust cleared, there were two things in that safe. There were two Federal Reserve bags. One of them says nickels, the other one I'm not sure what. There is no date on them. I am slowly getting information about these bags as I am currently not by this camp.

Now here is the question, are these bags worth anything? I will post some pictures of those bags, but expect no more than I can show you since I am not there.

Thanks a lot,
Mark

Interesting story.

They are historical items, so I am sure they are worth something to someone

Any collectors value? Or are there any collectors of these bags at all?

All the summer camps turn out nice at first... then there is the sad tale of Camp Crystal Lake and the number of times someone has tried to reopen it... muhahahahahahaha.

But a very awesome find! I personally don't know anyone who collects them, but if I had them I'd be hanging on to them just because they are cool!

Cool but probably not worth anything unless they were full of old silver coinage:)

I once paid about $3 for a federal reserve bag as part of a bigger deal. They probably cost about that much just to ship.

If the other bag isn't from the federal reserve but rather a small town bank then it's probably less collectible, unless you happen to find someone interested in that small town's history.

A search of completed ebay auctions shows bank bags selling for $1-5 but going unsold at $10-20.

The other one is a 1950's bag from marine midland, a very prominent trust fund which closed in 1999 .

Sounds like the poor souls on Storage Wars. They go though all the effort of opening a safe and all that is inside is a couple of empty bags. LOLOLOL

I would think a Carson City Bank bag would be a nice find. If the bags have a local interest, you could sell them at a local auction.

I was at an auction on the Eastern Shore in Virginia and they were selling early 1900 canceled checks from the Bank of Tangier. Tangier a small island community of the coast of Virginia, in the Chesapeake Bay. These canceled checks were selling for over 100 dollars each. Put these in another auction in Texas or Illinois and they would end up in the trash.

the bags aren't very rare unless there is something about them that I can't see in the imjage3s. They may be worth a couple of bucks to someone that just wanted them but they really aren't worth much more than that since they are empty. Like I said there may be something special about the bags but it would take someone that specializes in them to tell you if there is even anyone that does specialize in old bags like this
