I guess it's just showing my age, but I grew up with the "small portrait" notes and have trouble thinking of them as "old" or "obsolete" or "collectible" unless they have some special feature like an interesting serial number. In fact, I still think the new bills look like "funny money" (or Monopoly money, if you prefer).

In contrast, I hoard any silver silver certificates or "red seal" notes I find, even if in poor condition, simply because they stopped making them before I was born and therefore seem "exotic" to me (even if they don't have much or any value over face).

So, I guess what I'm asking is whether small portrait notes from, say the 1980s-1990s, have any value over face to collectors, or is the interest just from younger collectors who weren't around when these were standard? Is there any reason to pull any out of circulation that I find in good condition? As I said, they have absolutely no novelty value to me whatsoever, so I would only pull them if they were something that I could resell at a profit somewhere down the line.
