The seller has this listed as a "VF", I am fairly certain that would very conservative. I have made a practice NOT to buy Raw coins anymore since I got burned pretty good last time. I apologize for the small image, but this is what I got from the seller.

What does the CCF think of this 1861 Half Dime?

Thanks for the feedback!

AU-55. Slight wear on corn and apparent dulling in the fields. Probably an AU-53 technical grade but a beautiful, natural coin overall.

Did you notice the overdate? Do you know if the 1861/0 considered an error or a variety?

1861-Half-Dime---I-Ususally-Don't-Buy-Raw...

Update: I just saw on PCGS Coin Facts that the overdate is a "variety".

I believe an error, and if I remember right, its worth quite a bit more. I'd suggest buying raw actually, just be really careful and make sure you have a return policy. You can get much better deals. Avoid NGC.

VF?

FS-301 1861/0, not common but known in very high grade - PCGS has one in MS67. Worth a premium all the same.

I have tried to incorporate some "out of the ordinary" coins in my slabbed 7070, so this should fit right in.

Return policy...check.

SsuperDdave, I saw the examples on PCGS, WOW!

This is what Numismedia shows;

Half Dimes - 1861 1 over 0

FMV Prices (Good-MS60)

F12 $52

VF20 101

XF40 230

AU50 390

AU53 420

I'm also leaning toward AU53. Looks to be a killer strike too.

I think I did pretty good for the price I paid. I still can't believe they were calling this a "VF".

I'd call it a solid XF45, chance AU50. Nice coin.

I received the Half Dime yesterday, here are some rough "end table" images;

I really like the ornate reverse on the final design type of the Half Dimes.

I need to get this one slabbed so I can start my "Days of Slabbed 7070" thread.

Great pickup! Here's a link to the PCGS MS-67 example. It's a stunner! http://images.pcgs.com/CoinFacts/06666608_2200.jpg
