I have a good number of silver Franklin half dollars that are worth more for their silver content than as collector pieces. They were taken out of circulation and rolled in paper sleeves in the 1960's. Does anyone know where I might get the best price for them. I inquired at one retail coin shop that only offered 58% of the current market price per troy ounce.

Well, if you've got '64 Franklins, you may want to hold on to them, as they trade well above melt

Seriously, though, I would try another dealer if you're hot to sell. 58% is pretty cheesy.

I'll bet you could get well over melt selling the rolls on ebay, even as searched, circulated rolls.

Occationally I feel like a broken record repeating myself but here goes. Check out if there are any coin shows in your area. Try Coin World, PCGS, JMSCOINS, coppercoins web sites for a listing of such coin shows. Or just go to Google or Yahoo and type in Coin shows and your state. Go to one and see if they want them.

I would try another dealer, you should get atleast 7-9 times face value for those. I know that is what my dealer ussaly pays. or you cna spend some time around here and share some of your knowleadge and learn form some here and when you reach 50 post here is a great place to sell them.

I wouldn't accept less than 8x, would shoot for 9x.

If you live in a small town with limited options, try the Interweb:

Thank you all who took the time to help me. I will certainly follow up on your suggestions. Also, The coin shop rep told me that the only Franklins that have any collector value are 1955 and earlier, but they must be in super MINT condition. I'm open to more ideas, too.

I sold some "junk silver" on ebay last month. It was all 90% which is what you have. I got right at $9 for every face value $1.

You could post them here in the forum, and see if people would like to buy them (50 posts or more though)

look for another dealer, because I know most dealer will buy it from you as just junk silver even if there is no collector value. I know I can take in my 40% half and get about 1.25-1.50 per coin even if it is in Fine condition. so if you want to get raid of it keep looking and I am sure a dealer around you will pay you from 7-9 x times face. if you can not get that then hang around here and you could probaly sell them at 7-9 x face value. but ebay is alway another opion the only thing you have to watch for is sometimes the fews will get you and you may not get as much profit. good luck, and depending on were you live there may be some other members who now of a dealer or show you might have good luck at selling them. also welcome to the board

coinquery,
Once you get 50 posts and can trade on the forum, I would gladly give you $10 for every $1 face value if you can get me one of each date you have.
Just an idea,
Ty
