" The Royal Mint described the Churchill Crown as "one of the most difficult ever produced." Each cupro-nickel crown had to be struck by two extremely heavy presses, one of 250 tons and the other 360 tons. The Royal Mint had to remove some details such as Nemon's small initials to the left of the head. The relief was flatter than the sculptor had intended and Nemon was not at all happy with the result. this a model penny from 1844 by Joseph Moore, (not approved by The Royal Mint), but was circulated for a short time and very popular with the people apparently, one of my favourites. Safi   |

These two arrived in the last week. The 1709 shilling is fairly standard - I bought it because the incumbent for that date had been "doctored" to make it appear as the very scarce E no star, which was a distraction. The 1866 shilling is reasonably sharp and an upgrade on the incumbent. I can put up with the engraving as it gives it more history.   |

My yearbook tells me the total mintage for 1965 Churchill Crowns was 19,640,000 with as you said, no figures for the satin finish VIP ones or the ON initialled ones. Their values, however, suggest mintages down there with the George V Wreath Crowns perhaps just poking into four figures at most.

@Spyro. According to a publication by PCGS All known graded examples of the Satin Finish Churchill Crown amounts to a total of 20 Shared by PCGS,NGC and CGSUK . There are also examples of plain edge strikes which were unintentionally struck without a collar. I would imagine they will be a handful at most. Fun fact Churchill is the only real person to appear on a legal tender UK Pre-Decimal coin outside of the Monarchy. ST. George and Britannia were Fantasy Characters

Wow! After I'd posted my guess at Churchill varieties I saw the mintage for similar 1953 Coronation Crowns. Very small issue indeed! I wonder if there are any of the Churchill ones left? Can't move for them at fairs and in antique markets...
