PaddyB and Dearborn: The shape at the top of that wreath has been bugging me all day. I finally figured it out. It's a US Indian Head cent. Not sure we have our backs and fronts matched up properly...

In any event, that repousse looks like an interesting branch of exonumia, for sure!

A couple of minor upgrades picked up yesterday - 1825 Shilling and a 1683 Fourpence:

Also, for the awareness of fellow collectors, this Gothic Crown - which is a FAKE!
(I knew it was when I bought it in part of a job lot of mostly fake items, so it did not cost much.)

Just curious how can you tell that it's a fake?

There are quite a few indicators from the photos alone:
The hair is wrong,
The nose is too deeply cut,
The cross at the top of the Crown is too plain, in fact all the detail is less defined,
The detail on the reverse looks clunky and too large for the space it occupies (what I call cartoony),
Compare with this genuine one from my own collection:

In hand it also possible to test the metal - not silver, but I am not sure quite what alloy it is. (Too magnetic for silver but not enough to be steel or nickel.)
Also, just realised the orientation is wrong - on a genuine one the 3 lions for England are at the top, whereas this fake has the lion of Scotland at the top.

PaddyB thank you for the infromation very much appreciated.

I was having a close look at your fake coin and the real one and noticed her ear on the fake one doesn't look correct either.

Also great looking coins you posted as well.
Cheers Bryan

Lovely coin, GLB49, and very evocative of the old British Trade dollar, as I'm sure it was intended to be. This modern Britannia seems to be ruling the waves a bit more dynamically.

I don't really keep up on the doings of TPG's, since the 200-year-old tokens I collect rarely end up in slabs or need to, but the lack of a numerical grade on this piece did catch my eye. Does this represent a big change in the NGC grading process, or is it a one-shot Royal Mint package deal of some sort?

"Minty fresh" is the phrase that comes to mind!

Dropping this 1930 version in here just for comparison purposes...
