Many thanks for this excerpt, andyg...Later than I thought! (Haven't seen the Coincraft book in many years.)
Interestingly, another example of the same uniface "restrike pattern" as mine turned up in this Noonan's auction last month and hammered out at an even £500, so I guess they're considered collectible variants of the Bank of England token series -- not coinage per se, but neither were the "originals," which makes Lobel's pronouncements about "coinage" a bit hard to follow.
Meanwhile, I received an e-mail from Heritage today asking me to open the bidding on an original proof specimen of this pattern silver (as intended) token, complete with reverse. It is a very pretty token, I have to admit...and only $20,000 to start!

Thank you for the additional background.

Got my D&H 302 Middlesex halfpenny graded, the one I bought months ago from a British seller. Now, both my music-related halfpennies are in slabs (easier to store). The other one (Dodd's) I will post later. The reverse is obviously in much better shape than the obverse. But overall the halfpenny looks pretty decent to me .
