That ebay address had a link to a 1oz Rothschild old pour Au bar. It was actually within reach at $2,222 (painful, but not lethal) for the last 3 hours, but then... in the last 4 seconds... wham, wham, WHAM!! $2,338, $2,999 & then $3,049. Oh, well. "Such is the stuff that dreams are made of." Maybe I'll go buy a couple ASEs so I can feel like a big shooter...

Wow if people are willing to pay that much over spot now it seems the price of gold can continue to increase well into the 2000

For some people, most people are already out of the gold market at the current prices. Ill never understand the high premiums for the loaf bars myself.

LOL I saw the seller of that 5oz bar on another forum contemplating selling those gold bars after seeing others go for so much more over spot. I've been collecting old pour bars for a long time, so I have the patience not to get caught up in the ebay bidding frenzy that always drives the prices way into the irrationally high range.

Allot of people collect Engelhard bars and if one that is rare comes to market the price realized is always crazy like this.

I can't help wondering, though, how much this bar would be "worth" if gold prices ever fell below $1000/ounce again...
