Elbesaar, great addition! If I may ask, are all your sets slabbed? Did you start off using albums, then move to having certified coins also?

Yes - I first started all sets raw - when they were 80% complete - I'd send them in to get graded - what did not grade - I would sell off - and keep looking.
Tried and true method of getting to get familiar with the series - and you learn to grade by trial and error. Its fun !

I decided to use up my ebay Bucks on a V nickel for my low-boy set. I have this date in 64 & 62 ... But wanted a nice AU... Preferred an AU 58 - but those are very scarce (And more than many MS coins now ) - so...

Spotted this Quarter on ebay - and no one bid on it - but just to be safe - I used a Snipe Program. I think the coin was fairly priced - PCGS Price Guide - and it looks undergraded, IMHO.

You never know where you'll find things - even in your friend's inventory... I'll have this one in hand next week ... can't wait... Anyone want to guess the grade ?

Elbesaar, A few days ago I mentioned in your SLQ thread that I was going to pick up 3 SLQ's in the next month and you said go slow it is not a race. I just looked at 3 very nice coins you added in the last week. When great coins come along it is hard to wait. Thanks for sharing these.

As my dear old Mom used to say, do as I say not as I do.
I'm serious, go slowly, you won't get burnt out as quickly.. As long as I am using other peoples' money for these newps, I think I'm doing okay.
Buying ages ago and recent sales have afforded me these newps.
There will be a day of reckoning - and I'll be on the selling end of things, as they say, you never really own your coins, you are merely their caretaker.

If the ones you get rid of look anything like the ones you post you will do ok. I hope to one day buy some just like them.

The 1898 is in a PCGS 64 Holder. Last month, I sold my 1898 PCGS 66 which I have held onto for a dozen years. A good friend bought it at current price that he agreed to, as I feel he was of the belief that coin was a candidate for an MS 67 grade. Although I liked my old 66, it did not possess the Pizzaz of a 67, JMHO. So, in essence, the new 64 was gratis. It also matches my 1898-O Quarter much better. Over the past week, I was more than fortunate to learn early on in the sale process, of a friend's disbursement of his AU Barber quarter collection. I selected six dates I really liked and was fortunate to be awarded 4 coins of the 6 I wanted. Once I have the coins in hand, I plan on sending them, as well as all my other newps, to CAC and then to my photographer. I'll post the results as soon as I have the images. My friend's images are pretty good, really, but I think I'll wait until they are beaned and professionally imaged.

My last purchase, an upgrade, was a 1904 dime. While I normally do not spring for an UNC., this example has the eye appeal, strike and color with which I fell in love. THROW THE PRICE GUIDE OUT! And on ebay no less. And NO SLAB!

MatthewVincent: Beautiful Dime ! Thanks for sharing it. I picked up two Quarters for my latest collection... I have four more Quarters being held for me - but will wait to post those until I have them in hand...
