Actually, that 06-S Half saw a few years of service.
It's really a choice VF. I like it a lot, thanks Justin for
posting it.
The 06-S immediately above is a very choice VG 8.
I also like it a lot.
The only Barbers I do not like are "Poor" to G4 - as they
have worn them selves out and are no longer attractive,
even if it is the "Ice Cream Dime" .... I get ill every time
I see it.

Dan Carr, the designer of some US coins, has an antique coin press from the Denver mint that still works ! Some may know of his Operation, he still produces patterns for our coinage and submits them to the powers that be for consideration. He has a number of patterns for the Statehood Quarter series. Proposed (fantasy) issues for the Americas and mny other proposed ideas have been turned into coins and many are eagerly sought after. He is also known for producing fantasy coins of which I am a big fan. His production of the 1861 Confederate $20.00 double Eagle was superb. I bought a one ounce .9999 Fine issue . I also collect SLQ's ( or, I should say, I used to collect ) and his issue of the 1931-S is also amazing. Last month, he produced a 1916 Barber Half. A few friends ordered one or two and I only wanted the one to fit into the last spot opening in my Raymond Waite National Album. Living in hot humid Florida and the temperature swings between night and day, should give this Newp all the color it deserves ! ( I can't image coins to save my soul, this coin belongs to a friend ) .... Guess I have to use Photobucket ...Sorry. Edited by Elbesaar

I have one of Daniel Carr's 1916's on the way. I will post it when I get it. It was actually a very affordable way to have a mint state coin of the Barber design. I also have a DC 1975 Washington quarter. Wish I would have caught it when he did the 1816 CBH. He did that design really well. Edited by DoubleEagle20

Golden: Yes, Dan is extremely talented. I wish I had more of his Special Strikings. Who wouldn't love to see an impossible coin, like an 1893-CC Barber dime or a 1904-S Barber quarter ? These were never made and if struck, they do not need to carry the COPY disclaimer. Here's another minor upgrade :   |

I am a collector - its engrained into my fiber. On occasion, I find a coin that I would buy for myself in a heart beat, if it weren't for those pesky finances - or as they say - Lacka Cash !! Without hesitation, I bought this near Gem within 30 seconds of laying eyes on it. I was assisting a dealer friend at an ANA two Summers ago. Another good friend and major Barber collector " Chugum " walks this across the aisle to me and offers it to me for a few bucks over his cost. This coin had changed hands no less than three times at the show - and it was only a Friday early afternoon. I had to buy it, regardless. Guess you could say, I owned it less than a day before I offered it another great Barber friend, Labelman87.  Its enough to make a grown man cry.  Edited by Elbesaar

I noticed the crack between the "AT" of STATES immediately.
Then, I looked for his signature.
Is it above the "H" in HALF?
It might be "DC"

I don't think he puts his initials on the fantasy strikes, Matthew. If he does, I have not found them on my 1975 Washington quarter, nor this coin yet. What you see above the "H" is very faint residue of the original strike of the coin. Looks like mine was a 1900's Philly half before it became this coin. Also another crack running through the "C" of America, through the arrows and into the right wing. Also another one running from head to tail of the eagle. This reverse die won't last much longer. SilverStackerKid: When you see something out of this world, you know it. Has anyone seen the latest Barber Coin Collectors Journal for this quarter ? The front and back covers have my friend, Dale Friend's, 1909-O Quarter in PCGS 66+ on the covers. Talk about stunning. I lost track of this coin when Dale sold his set. Two of his friendly competitors,either Dr. Steve Duckor or Sunnywood bought it. This is a great, great coin. Ok, on a much smaller pay scale, here is a duplicate for me... 1916-D - Its got a Green CAC sticker...   |

Seeing the 1906-S That Double Eagle posted - reminded me that one of my favorite coins from my better Half set had a truly stunning 06-S:  ....and the back up in the second set :  ...this is a 06-S that was included when I bought a complete set of Halves from a dealer in New Orleans. This was the RED STICK collection:  ....from another album -   I am still searching for the one I currently have... its frustrating !! ...ran across another from another set....    I'll find my newest one - sooner or later !! ...guess it'll have to be later !! |
