Next couple of weeks, I am having my entire Half Dollar set professionally
imaged. Last year my friend Valente151 was nice enough to come down
and image my Nickel collection and a few Dimes and Quarters.

Since then, I have realized that aside from a dozen or so newp's , I also
had two dozen Dimes without good images. Same story on the Quarters,
I have approximately 20 new Quarters of need of imaging.

There are a total of 134 coins to be imaged in total. That should keep my
friend busy over the 4th !! LOL

I looked over some of my halves, and I was very surprised at how stunning
some of them were ! The problem with locking up your collection in a bank
is that you don't see them enough to truly appreciate what you have.

Hopeful that you fine folks would welcome a very late newcomer to this long running thread.

Many amazing coins shown in the previous 53 pages.

My collecting interest in Barber half dollars is quite honestly in the honestly circulated, lowball end of the grading spectrum.

It's a natural offshoot from my interest in circulated classic silver commemorative ... and a pleasurable collecting diversion while I search for another rare appearance of a circulated commemorative.

Anyways ... all of us aware that well worn Barber half dollars are commonplace in the market ... however - certifiable PO01 Barber half dollars are much tougher than you may think!

I have managed to identify and certify (so far) eight Barber half dollars as PCGS PO01.

I have three additional raw Barber half that I am reasonably confident will certify at PO01 (1893-O, 1896-S and 1902).

Hopeful that someone else out there appreciates the historical beauty of honestly circulated coins ... coins which have honestly served our nations commerce.

Enjoy - David

Nickelsearcher:

Interesting coins. I can understand having a # 1 set of anything.
As my grandmother use to say about my collecting, at least it
keeps him out of the Bar Rooms !!

I am very interested in the Avatar you posted. I am into classic
Mid Century furniture design. That is a wonderful chest of drawers.

Not sure if this will download yet: my Newp for the Half Set:

Wishing to not dilute the focus of this thread ... my avatar is a hand-made jewelry box designed and built by me ... lovely box indeed. We discussed 'my other hobby' in this CCF thread:

https://goccf.com/t/216548

Just for fun ... and expert opinions welcomed ... the three raw Barber half mentioned above that I truly believe will certify as PCGS PO01 ... mindful that the PCGS wizards have their own minds.

1893-O PO01?

The-25-Days-Of-Barber-Coins!!

We are currently discussing this coin in the Classic Grading forum.

1896-S PO01?

The-25-Days-Of-Barber-Coins!!

1902 PO01?

Would be the first 19xx dated PO01 Barber half certified as PCGS PO01.

The-25-Days-Of-Barber-Coins!!

I'm having tremendous collecting joy chasing these ...

Glad to see your coins making an appearance in this thread David!

By the way, this may be my favorite CCF thread. I get excited every time I get an email notice of a new post.

One of these days I will get around to posting my one and only Barber coin.

Thank you for the education, DoubleEagle20.

Rather than seeing this topic 'muddied' by low grade examples I for one
welcome them. Especially when they lead to a discussion of identification markers
which still remain all the way down to PO01!

As for fantasy pieces, each to his own. My only Dan Carr pieces are medals stuck to commemorate the 40th Anniversary of the Liberty Seated Coin Club.

So let the '25 days of' continue....and continue!

I love how we are alternating between well circulated and uncirculated examples.
