News has come to the UK that Sandy has been shredding apart the east coast of the US and destroying subways and such like, causing untold damage to many historic sites and attractions (not to mention killing several people, but we havent really received a death toll over here yet).

My question is, after sandy has passed through and (hopefully) everyone is safe and dry, would East coast metal detectorists expect old finds churned up and beaches laden with finds from the sea? Or will the storm just add to the corrosion of stuff underground, simply damaging them wtihout moving soil about?

Most likely there will be tons of new stuff to uncover. Sadly, the death toll here has risen to 35.

Yes, it's under water. I was just on that roller coaster not 2 months ago.
I would like to go detect down there, but right now I'm sitting a dark, unheated house with no hot water, on a street with 5 or 6 different power lines down, wrapped around large fallen trees. No street lights; everything is very dark and scary at night. We are lucky, we have gas for the stove, so we ate hot food every night since the storm. power company is giving a general answer of 7-10 days. We finally took baths today, by mixing cold water from the tap with 3 large stock pots of boiling water. When the power goes out, you are quickly thrust into the lifestyle of 100 years ago. Candles become important; and clean water, and fire.

Problem now is food in freezers is beginning to melt. And gasoline is getting scarce, as many stations don't have power to turn on electric pumps, so you dont have extra gas to go looking for things you need. Long lines and angry people can deteriorate fast.

Preppers don't seem so crazy now!

Anyhow, hope to get down to the beaches at some point.
