I was just looking at ebay, and I've noticed there are a lot of people selling mixed lots of coins at different pound weights. I'm just wondering if anyone has ever had any good results from buying one of these lots.

A general rule will be that the lots have already been cherry picked for the great finds. There are lots that havent but unless you can see the coin in the pictures its pretty much impossible to separate them from the picked ones. If you really wanted one just bid on the value you can see and dont assume there is anything else there. You may get lucky and get it for the price you wanted and if not move on to the next.

I've never had a good experience with lots 'by the pound'. Usually its someone trying to dump their worst junk on some unsuspecting buyer.

Thank you for the advice. Right before I posted that I bought a small lot of world coins from ebay. Maybe they won't turn out too bad. It was a 1/4 pound, and the price was about $4. I'll probably just buy individual coins from now on.

Basebal31, I'm definitely not looking to get rich. I just enjoy collecting.

Those lots like that for that price arent a bad way to end up with some stuff you may not have been interested in or looked for otherwise. As long as you end up happy from it thats all that matters

I have bought some bulk silver lots on occasion and have found some absolutely stunning coins in them.
It doesn't happen very often but when you do open up a package and spot a heap of MS coins sparkling like new stars amongst the dark and worn coins it is a really nice feeling

Here is an awakening about buying lots. Tell me the odds on this happening. Glad it wasn't valuable coins.

Grandsons Jefferson 5 cent album.
Needs to fill only 12 slots 1938 to 1964. Lot of common dates.
Bought a lot of 39 different Jeffs '38 to '64 for 2.50 and 1.50 shipping.
Out of the 39 different coins I was only able to fill 1 (one) slot!
Still trying to determine what the odds of that happening were.
