I don't have many coins with holes, but I found this coin interesting because of the placement of the hole. I wonder why it was put there? AE Antonininus Numerian IMP NVMERIANVS PF AVG PROVIDENT AVGG VI XXI RIC II TICINUM 447A

Eddop => that's an interesting link ... When I saw echizento's new coin and its hole location, I thought to myself "that's smart ... when the wearer of the necklace looks down at his/her chain, the coin will apprear correct-side-up"

That's really interesting...the whole hole sure looks old! Good placement and carefully done. Seeing a closeup of the hole would be interesting to get an idea how it was done.

Thanks for the close-ups! I don't see any signs of expansion around the edge closest to the hole and there's beveling on the edge. So I might guess that an awl or drill carefully removed metal--versus a sharp object simply striking a hole and displacing metal. It has certainly weathered the centuries well!

There might be an interesting thread here. Show your holed coins.

Interesting coin....I only have one holed coin and its not ancient but does come from the legendary land of Connecticut home of Ancientnoob and was made in the year 1787 AD, it is Cu and crude. It bore the laughing mutilated bust of George III of England and the reverse motif used by the Romans to symbolize the conquest of Briton. The god Britannia!
