Brother of Claudius II.Emperor 270 AD

Marcus Aurelius Claudius Quintillus was the younger brother of the famous Claudius II Gothicus. Following the death of his brother due to the plague, Quintillus was proclaimed Emperor by his troops at Aquileia. After only a breif period of undisputed power, he was challenged by the ambitious general Aurelian who had been proclaimed Emperor by the legions at Sirmium. Faced by overwhelming odds and the military experience of Aurelian, Quintillus' troops deserted him following which he then committed suicide.(17 DAYS ?)

Interesting coin. I love these Quintillus coins. Although not rated as scarce, I find they are hard to come by. I own two, but neither have the field markings.

Nice eye-appealing tone to that coin ...

For the record, the two "Rarity Tables" show Quintillus rated at #91 and #67 (for an average Rarity Rating = "79")

For as short a reign as he had, I'm surprised his coins are considered rare. I've only been able to find three since I started collecting over ten years ago. Nice coin.
