Hello, Not sure if this is the correct forum, but since living in Dubai, UAE for the past two months, I've come across some interesting coins. Most notably: 1780 Maria Theresa Thaler (Austrian, I believe) 1875 French 5 Francs 1884 CC Morgan silver dollar1926 French Indo China Piastre? Needless to say, they all look aged and they are all very magnetic. Not sure if they qualify as counterfeit, but they certainly are not real. I bought them for a few bucks anyways.

It appears the Chinese have infested/infected the world with these coins. It's too bad.

I don't know if these are Chinese made, the workmanship is shoddy at best and not even the correct weight/composition. I think these are just made to fool the tourists wanting a good bargain.

Below is the 1884CC, notice how it's offset on the reverse? Still not sure if counterfeit is the correct identification, but I'll go with it for now.

Yes...counterfeit is the correct terminology.

Absolutely amazing! Counterfeits by Larry, Curly & Moe! I'm surprised they didn't misspell 'Pluribus' or 'America.' Evidently the Dubai crowd must have a really low opinion of the intelligence level of people who visit there.
You'd think there should be an International Counterfeiters Guild that would enforce quality control standards to maintain the integrity of their 'profession.'
The clowns who made that garbage are giving counterfeiting a bad name.

that Morgan isn't the worst counterfeit I have seen so if the rest look like this it could really fool some non collectors I would imagine. I have heard in China they sell these counterfeits on the street corners to tourists and most think they are real until they come back to the states and find out differently. I saw a guy a few years ago on another forum that spent every penny he had on him buying counterfeit Morgans in China because he thought he was getting a good deal and could make money when he got back home. He ended up with over 1000 counterfeit coins that were basically worthless. I don't remember what he paid for them over there but he was out quite a bit of money

You can find these coins at just about any shop that sells, bottle openers, fridge magnets or typical tourist gifts.
I did ask one of the vendors if the coins were real and she fessed up and said "no", she didn't elaborate though, as if that was enough.
I guess if you ask, you'll get the truth, but they certainly will not volunteer the information.

Obvious fakes. More good will from our friends in China.
