I found this coin and I was wondering if it was of any value?

On one side it says:

1873 with the word "Liberty" on a globe (I think)

On the other side it says:

United States of america
B Plubibut? (Then something else I can't read)
In god we trust
420 Grains
900 Fine
Trade dollar

I also took some pictures. I hope they are good quality and useful. They were taken under artificial light because it is night time here :(....

(These pictures are higher resolution)

Thank you all in advance!

Try a magnet on it. You should be able to pick it up. This one is a knock off. Not genuine.

Rather crude copy of one of six original, unused Trade dollar patterns. Specimens exist that were sold by the US Mint about the time the final Trade dollar design was settled, in a variety of metals.

It appears to be a copy of a Judd 1315 Trade dollar pattern.

Hi!

Thanks a lot for the input! The magnet pick the coin up really easily! Should I go ahead and toss it into the trash?

Hi Philadelphian

Wow WOW The real ones are a real beauty! So sharp and well done. Yep, this one is a really poor copy. Thanks a lot guys! Should I go ahead and throw it into the trash can?

I'm in the camp that thinks any fake still has value for educational purposes. I would wait until a fellow named Steve Caruso chimes in on this thread, and we'll see what he says.

Oh, and welcome to the Community!

You learn by experience and one way to learn about fakes is to keep them as reference. Of course the magnet test is the certainty (when it should be silver) but that may not always be the case, the same goes for weight. Over the years I've acquired a few and they do serve as a guide to measure against the genuine article.
Keep it but clearly mark it as a fake/forgery on the holder.

I don't believe this one has any value even to counterfeit collectors as they usually want the ones that are of very good quality and these like this can be found all over the place and shouldn't fool anyone that has ever seen the original design. These like this can be found on just about every street corner in town in China for a U.S. Dollar or less
