I've currently got a load of gold plated and rolled gold bits of jewelery plus a bucket load of gold plated CPU s . Is there any easy ways other than nitric acid / aqua fortis / regia to extract or refine these as I am not exactly sure how to do this safely . Plus if this is the only way where can I get these chemicals and are there any home made easy alternatives to these chemicals I can buy from a supermarket/ hardware store etc

This is a question for the experts. But id be surprised if it was worth the time to extract the gold

I suspect what you're looking at getting into isn't feasible on a 'DIY @ home' basis. Cost, safety ramifications, quality control problems & who knows what all else will almost undoubtedly prove to be deal-breaking considerations.

However, best of luck with your project. The odds are heavily against you, but if you manage to put it together, you'll end up wealthy beyond your wildest dreams.

As a chemist, I VERY strongly advise anyone who is not an expert in chemistry or in metallurgy to avoid attempting to refine gold. It can be extremely hazardous, not only to you but to anyone else near you. I would not attempt this myself unless I had access to a well stocked chem lab with good waste disposal capacity... and I studied chemistry for 30+ years.

Ed_B is correct not at all a safe process even using electrolysis requires the use of Cyanide. I use the testing lab at my office when I plate there is no way I would do anything related to gold processing at home.

There are commercially available kits but unless you are going to be refining large quantities then you are better off just sending it to a refinery.
