Antoninus Pius 138-161 A.D. - Orichalcum Sestertius 34mm 24.2g Obverse: Laureate head right ANTONINUS AUG PIUS P P TR P XVIII Reverse: lLibertas standing left, holding pileus and sceptre LIBERTAS COS IIII S C RIC Vol.III 929 I just ordered this coin and figured that I'd show the seller's image because a scanner image doesn't really do a lot of coins justice by a long shot. Nearly all of my coins are scanned in. I will take a scan once I receive it and show it in this thread. Assuming that I receive this coin, this will be my 47th Roman Imperial ruler. I'm going to call this my 1 year anniversary coin for this month. November 20th is when I will have a year of ancient coin collecting. It's also my very first Sestertius! This coin will more than likely be my only coin this month. So please, help me enjoy it by commenting or posting one of your own Antoninus Pius coins. I don't mind a bit!

Quote: congrats on your 1 year anniversary! i'll be there in december. Time flies when you're having fun and I've had so much fun with this new hobby of mine. Way more exciting than collecting modern coins for sure IMO. Once the time comes I'll be here to congratulate you. Thanks a lot! Quote: Ancient coins, 5 minutes to get hooked a lifetime later you still probably wont have seen everything Oh yeah. I was hooked right from the beginning when JW gave me my first coin which is this coin. Augustus - Philipi I see new coins all the time and even though I will never afford many. I still enjoy looking at them online. Many more years to come for collecting ancient coins I hope.

In honor of your Pius anniversary, I'll post my longest owned Pius. I don't know when I got it but it was before 1987 when I got my first computer and did a list of my coins. I did have dateless records that I paid $5 for it but it is only a dupondius. For the record: that is not bronze disease. Hard green is OK; soft green not. and: My Favorite Pius coins Both of these date from his early reign while he was fighting with the Senate over their not wanting to deify Hadrian. Coins of this period do not bear the title Augustus on either side. I believe there are a few denarii earlier than these that do have AVG issued before the mint found out that Pius was not accepting the title even though there was no question that he was in charge. I do not have one of them.
