I have just returned home from the release of the SAS $1 coin. It was a great location for the release, at the SAS Campbell Barracks. We were seated outside amongst the gum trees, Magpies calling, sun shining, soft breeze blowing and Military band playing old war tunes in the background. The coin celebrates the 50th anniversary of the SAS unit, first founded at Campbell barracks in 1957. At AUD$78 the coin should be a good investment (I hope), with only 7,500 minted and 1000 of those are put aside for SAS soldiers. About 10 others were handed out to special guests, this leave only 6490, so if you want one get in quick. After the release, food and drinks were served for morning tea. It was a beautiful morning, the only disappointment being that coins were not available to buy on the day, we had to order them. So here is a picture of the coin taken from a photo on the magazine.... Steve Edited by triggersmob 04/11/2007 08:43 am

Will do, Snooba. It may be a while though. Perth Mint is not too quick with delivery, even though they are only 20 minutes away. Also, I could not get photos of the days events because we were on a Military base and cameras were not allowed. Steve

Disregard the above question.
I just got onto Bigfella's site and learned it was One Dollar.

Just bought one on ebay a minute ago for $78 AU. There were two there but the other one was priced at $150 AU. Apparently it is a limited mint of 7500 of which the first 1500 are going to SAS Association members leaving just 6000 up for grabs to the general public ( according to the write up on ebay? ). Perth Mint currently have them in stock for $78 Au also. http://www.coincommunity.com/forum/uploaded/casey jones/200732782527_bn106a[1].jpg target _blank rel nofollow bn106a[1].jpg /a br / 61.56 nbsp KB" border="0" style='cursor:default' onClick='doimage(this, event)'>

Shep, that's a different packaging to the one I have, it's for the SAS soldiers only. Good price though. Steve

Still...the standard coin has been achieving upwards of $90.00 on ebay. Trust me it will be a gem of a coin down the track based on current availabilty. If Downies are asking for them then the coin is scarce.
