OK folks, whats going on with the reverse there? I am sure that is part of that variety, but as I don't see that on all spike chins, I am guessing it was either later die state or a different rev. die with the spike obv die.

And, is price right on do you think?

The Cohen-6 Half Cent is famous for the die state progression on its reverse; 12 states are identifiable with the progression of the Cuds about the rim. This looks to be about die state 9 or so.

I'll let those qualified weigh in on the money side of things. If that was you left standing when the hammer fell, congrats! I think you'll be $185-worth of happy with it!

Yeah, I pulled the trigger on it. It's a birthday gift for VACookey, so I think she will like it. :) It's just one of those coins I am not overly familiar with, so I was a bit hesitant. Thanks for the info and help guys. Much appreciated.

The spiked chin obv die comes paired with four different reverse dies, this created four different varieties C-5 through C-8. As Philadelphian mentioned the C-6 reverse went through an extensive series of cracks, Retained Cuds and full Cuds. It is widely collected by die state. He mentioned 12 die states but there are also other intermediary states as well. Breen lists 16 states and I think Morley lists even more. It is not unusual to find that a C-6 specialist collector may have as many as 23 or 24 coins in his die state set.
