I found this one in a bag of wheat-back pennies. I know it has no value but it has the cool factor. Somebody put a lot of work into hollowing out this Wheaty. It even has what looks like a tin liner. I don't know if the inner portion fell off or was this an incomplete project? Currently, I have two, two-sided coins in my collection. One Jefferson nickel and one 1964 Kennedy half.

I just thought you guys would like to see one before it was completed. I'm not going to finish the job. I'll leave it as is. Too much work for me and not enough of the proper tools on hand to do a good job.

you got that in a bag how the heck did it get in to the bag in the first place? I thought it would be rejected.

I don't think he is stating that he got this bag of coins from a bank. I think he maybe just bought or obtained a bag of wheat pennies and this was one of the coins in the bag. At least that is how I read it. I am sure if I am wrong he will explain. Maybe it is half of a Magician's coin?

Not a bank bag. A Ziplock bag from a customer. Remember, I said a bag of Wheaty's. I don't think a bank bag would be full of Wheaty's unless you had one heck of a lucky day or a time machine.

Hey Teach,

I never thought about the magic aspect of this piece. Great input. Thanks.

A dime would probably fit in there, maybe with some work because of unevenness around the rim.

argentum,

I tried the dime and it is a sloppy fit. It could be made to fit but would take some work. It moves around too freely. The two other, two-sided coins I have are made in this exact same manor. I may be able to get a picture of these but it would take me a day or two to find them and photograph them. Thanks for your input.

To quote Steve Martin (Neal Page) in the movie Planes, Trains and Automobiles, he tells John Candy (Dell Griffith):

"When we put are heads together, we get absolutely nowhere."

Maybe taking "bag of wheatbacks" a bit too literally!

As promised, here are the pictures of my silver Kennedy two-headed half dollar. It was created by hollowing out one half (like the penny seen above), leaving the reeded edge intact. Then a second half is reduced in diameter and thickness allowing it to be placed inside the first half. You can see the seam in the pictures but if you're not looking for the seam, it looks great. The nickel I have was two halves joined together with a center seam along the edge. This too was a precision job. I hope you enjoy.
