Quote: ...none of the other coins in those Proof Sets toned, so the printed insert may or may not be a factor here I think the bronze composition is also a factor here.

I ordered a set, should be here tomorrow. I'll let you know if they're toned too. I plan on breaking them out.

I'm curious now. My 2009 sets have been packed away for a while. I'm going to have to dig them out and see what they look like. I've been waiting for the right rainy day to crack some sets and put them in my Dansco albums.

I just looked at my 2009 Uncirculated Mint Set. (not Proof) and found this slip in the packaging. All Coins are OK.

My 2009 proof cents have toned too, but nowhere near the look of these. Mine are more of a blotchy brown..

Since the Cents in the Mint Set did not tone at all, with extreme care, I transferred the complete proof set in the Mint Set package and need to seal the blister pack. I placed the coins from the Mint Set into the Proof holders... Will post photos when completed, and I also like that all the proof coins are on one card instead of four seperate holders.

@silverguy I never gave it a thought to read the packaging information. Thanks for posting.

I've seen quite a few sets toned to various degree, including some of mine. I agree with BadThad's and DNA's comments.

Quote: with the government plastic, Proof coins unfortunately tone all the time Last year, I bought a year-2000 Silver Proof Quarter lens specifically for the coins' subtle gold hues (almost a "white gold" look, and way too subtle to be A.T.). It did take 11 years for them to reach that subtle coloration, far longer than Broken-Coin's Cents. The ebay seller was in upstate New York. Quote: Broken-Coin: I placed the coins from the Mint Set into the Proof holders Those should look great in the Proof lens! Question is, will they tone in that OGP as well? There's a chance they may not, if the toning was due to the bronze's/anti-tarnish rinse's interaction with gases given off by the OGP insert because it was new (ie: the gases in new cars that give the trademark "new car smell"). If those "new packaging" gases are now gone, your Mint Set Cents may not tone. PS: I checked my pair of 2009 Silver Proof Sets, one 2009 Clad Proof Set, one Lincoln Coin & Chronicles Set, and three 2009 Mint Sets. No toning on any of the coins.

I had a chance to examine my 2009 cents today. No toning. I am part relieved and part disappointed.

I've just checked: Clad Proof Set: 5 out of 8 sets toned in various degree Silver Proof Set: 0 out of 1 toned. Mint Set: 0 out of 8 sets toned.
May be jbuck can set up a little poll/survey for this topic. It would be interested to know.

I just uploaded the photos to photobucket and will post what the proof set looks like in the Mint Set holder in a seperate thread sometime tomorrow and post the link here... I didn't want to spend/invest any more money on these sets and like that all the proof coins are together on one card instead of four seperate hard cover holders (just my opinion).
